WILLIAM CHAPMAN Obituary
He was a native of Petersburg and attended Peabody High School where he played football. During his time at Peabody, he was featured in the school play "Wokomis." After graduation from Peabody he became a builder of houses. Mr. Chapman soon left home for Fairbanks Alaska where he lived of over thirty years and after retiring from the Federal Government, he worked on the Alaskan Pipeline for several years before returning to Petersburg. His humor and personality were so pleasant that everyone that came in contact with him was a friend.
Mr. Chapman was also preceded in death by a son Jamel; his sisters, Ernestine C. Roberson, Ruth C. Royall, Ella C. Hailes, Dorothy Chappell; and a brother, Charles E. Chapman.
He is survived by his three sons, Juan Chapman (Mary) Philadelphia, Pa., William Curtis Chapman, Jr., Christopher Chapman; and a daughter, Maryann Rutledge. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Demeka Braziel, Alesia Chapman, Merrell Chapman, Maurion Rutledge, IriJah Rutledge, Mya Rutledge, Dasha Eulien and Lavarius McNair. He is survived by six great grandchildren; Kwamane Rutledge, Lovell Neil, Aleksa Chapman, Myaan Chapman, Brielle Chapman, Antonio Johnson; three godchildren, George, Calvin and Tramaune; best friends Stine W. McRae and Sarah Armstrong; a niece, nephews and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the chapel of Bland & Tucker Funeral Homes, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA 23803. Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker, Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg, V.
