PAULDING, OH: Paul H. Hill, age 93, passed away on January 29, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Latty, OH on December 17, 1932, the son of Waveland and Thelma (Martin) Hill. In 1952, he married Margie Funkhouser, who preceded him in death in 2013.
He and his wife owned and operated Hill Carpet Services for 25 years and he retired from the US Postal Service in 2000. They also owned the Apache Dairy Bar in Sherwood, OH. He was involved in the raising, training, and driving standard bred horses for over 50 years. Paul's passion for horses started over 80 years ago. He was also a Paulding Township Trustee. He was a member of US Trotting Association, Township Trustee Association, and a member and past commander of the VFW Post 587 in Paulding. HE also served on the Paulding County Fair Board for over 20 years. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier Association. Paul served during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He was aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Princeton. He was also a member of the Paulding United Methodist Church, the John Paulding Historical Society, and the Ohio Harness Horseman Association.
Paul will be lovingly missed by his daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Smith, Paulding, OH, Kim Garrity, Paulding, OH, Laurie Hill, Edgerton, OH; sister, Luella Thomas, Paulding, OH; special friend, Deb Dougal, Paulding, OH; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Paul was also preceded in death by his daughters, Terri Coulon and Wava Colley; brother, Russell Hill; one granddaughter.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Den Herder Funeral Home with Rev. George Reed officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding Township, OH with military rites accorded by the Paulding VFW Post 587.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Den Herder Funeral Home. There will also be visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's memory to the Paulding County Dog Shelter, c/o Paulding County Sheriff's Office.
