PARRILLO, DVM, ALFRED C.

Born in Providence, Alfred was the son of the late Anthony M. and Beatrice G. (Jones) Parrillo. He worked as a veterinarian for 55 years before retiring at age 79. He was the former owner of Scituate Animal Hospital and worked as the public health veterinarian for the state of Rhode Island for many years. He was proud to have written the first law in Rhode Island pertaining to animal welfare and governing the humane treatment of animals in 1972. In his later years, he became very involved in The American Saddlebred Horse Association and The American Saddlebred Sport Horse Association. Dr. Parrillo was a strong advocate for the use of natural horsemanship in training horses and was the owner/breeder of Multi-Champion Stallion Holly Akala Banner. Alfred was a dedicated member of St. Thomas Church where he served on the vestry for many years. He was also co-chairman of the Capital Campaign Committee and organizer of the Dollar Sunday Initiative. Over the years he greatly enjoyed serving as an acolyte at church services.
Besides his husband, he is survived by his loving children, Lucette M. Robinson and her husband Derek of Boxford, MA, Mark D. Parrillo and his wife Janice of Thomasville, GA, and Jennifer L. Parrillo and her husband Derek Forand of Seminole, FL. Alfred was the cherished grandfather of Michael, Joseph, Malia, and Olivia. He was the great grandfather of Aiden. Alfred was the dear brother of Douglas W. Parrillo, MD of Burrillville, and the late William K. Parrillo. He was the brother-in-law of Joyce Parrillo of Foster. He was also the brother-in-law of Anthony M. Gallonio and his wife Barbara of Cranston. Alfred was the uncle of Dana, William, Damon, Tara, John, and Andrew.

DEAR DR P.
An entire year has passed since we saw that devilish sparkle in your eye, heard your silly giggle rolling from your great big beautiful eyes. The way that your eyes and nose wrinkled in laughter.
I miss hour voice, your wisdom, your impatience. I miss your compassion.
I miss your tolerance and your paternal love.
I look for these qualities in so many people around, but they all pale in comparison. The world NEEDS your ways now; more than ever.

We miss you, friend.
We miss you.

Our sympathies for Al´s beloved family, especially John and his children. He was a cherished friend, mentor and colleague. He and John gave us plenty of advice and support, professionally as we started our own veterinary practice as well as just how to be good and decent people. We will always love you and be grateful that you were part of our lives. We will miss the laughs and the Cresto deGallo

Uncle Al,

As I sit in the parking lot of Nardolillo Funeral Home, and watch people drive into the lot and walk into to the funeral home to pay their last respects to you.  I wonder what they are thinking and how you touched their lives.  Watching this has caused me to reflect on how you have touched my life and what I would say to you for the last time.
So many things come to mind and these are some of my thoughts.

I have known you at least 50 years of my life.  And during that time, you have been the most sincere,  honest, compassionate man I have ever met.  The love that you showed for those around you, that sincere caring, passion for your work, honesty and integrity was like  no other.  Your smile, wit and gleam in your eyes always said it all.  Always having the best advice as I went through my growing pains.

From the day the bee flew into my shirt and stung me minutes before you baptized Lisa,
to the time I had to put my first cat I ever had, down (I will never forget the compassion you showed).
I clearly remember the time with my Dad installing electricity into the "Barn" and standing ankle deep in you know what and looking down at my feet and smelling you know what........?????
With that mischievous look in your eyes, you told me that it would make me taller. Both you and my Dad got quite the laugh.
(By the way, I'm still the same height now as I was then.  So that theory can get picked up with a pooper scooper and tossed out).
So many memories throughout the years.  I can go on and on.

So I guess I just want to say to you is....
Thank You for being you and your love, compassion, friendship and your generosity you have shown to me and my family.  You will forever have a special place in my heart.

To your Children,

Lucette, Mark, Jennifer and Families,
Never, ever forget your Father's Love.
He loved you children deeply.
He was always proud of you, always spoke about you.
I know how hard it is to lose a father.
No matter how old you become, you never want them to leave you.
Keep his memories close to your heart.
I know I will.  He is in a better place and is not suffering anymore.  Please accept my sincere condolences.

With love,
Patricia Iadevaia

To the Family of Dr Parillo. I have know Dr Parillo all of my life. My late Mother went to school with him. He took care of all of my animals until he retired. I was heartbroken when he retired because he was the best Veterinarian, I feel, in the State. I trusted his judgment regarding my animals. We remained friendly after his retirement, although I had not seen him in a while. I am so very sad to see that he passed. He will always be remembered for his kindness and compassion. I will miss him. Rest In Peace Dr Parillo, you will never be forgotten

Dr Parrillo was our family vet from the time I was 8 years old and got our first dog to when I got married and had pet rabbits until he retired from his practice at Scituate Animal Hospital. He took such wonderful care of all of our pets over the years. You we´re never turned away or had to wait long times for an appointment and he made you feel like your pet were his top priority. I was happy to become reacquainted with him years later when I joined St Thomas Church in 2014 and also met his husband John. They were two very kind and loving people. He was a wonderful vet and and a wonderful human being and this world was a better place because of him Very Sincerely Cindy Johnson

Hi John and family so sorry for the loss of your husband and Dad to his children. I met Dr. Parrillo when my family and I moved to North Scituate, RI in 1965. He took care of every animal we ever had. The compassion he had for every single animal that stepped into his office was nothing but special. Thank you Dr. for our friendship.

Alfred, my friend my mentor my confidant, I will miss you but never forget you you were such wonderful person to so many. Early on in our friendship you inspired me and gave me opportunities to learn from you and experience first hand veterinary skills a vocation I always desired but was unable to attain due to lack of support. You quickly became "Uncle Al the kiddies Pal" to my children and God father to my daughter. You truly where a member of my family without your kindness we would have never had our home. May you Rest In Peace and find your place among the Angels for you are without doubt and will always be my Guardian Angel.

I have so many fond memories of my 'Uncle Al.' From spending time with him at the Scituate Animal Hospital and seeing how caring he was towards all the animals under his care to seeing his adoration for his beloved horses at his farm. He was kind and funny and all of the characteristics you'd want in a veterinarian. He was also a wonderful godfather. I will miss him very much. Rest in peace. xoxo
