To Edie and family,
So sorry to hear that Gussie passed. I will always remember him on Brook street with my dad, and in South Providence of course. What happy days we all had!! I will always be his "Kirkie" and hope he finds my dad up there and resumes the good times!! Love, Cyd

To Fr. Hemenway's family:
My thoughts go back to the 1970's when our family first met Father Hemenway (through my mother-in-law)\. He was very generous with his time, caring and doing for many in the community of Christ Church in Providence. He was a blessing and I thank his family for sharing. May God's Love bring Peace and Comfort to each of you.

I would like to share my feelings of sorrow with the family and friends of Fr.Hemmenway: I constantly drive past the corner of Oxford and Eddy Sts. and am sadden by the only remains of Christ Church, a few of the original red bricks laying in a vacant lot. So many lives were touched and brightend by father Hemmenway and all that transpired everyplace he was. Here is a poem I wrote and hope no one will mind me sharing as it always comes to my mind when people pass on:
darkness climbs
from earths edge
clouds tear
a piece from the moon
saltshakers of light
sprinkle sparkling crystals
across the sky
some fall & float
shimmering
on the surface
of the sea
while sleepers sink
into the depths
of their dreams. sc

I would like to extend my condolences to the Hemenway family. Father Hemenway lived a long life but it is still difficult to let such a good soul go. He had a profound impact on the lives of many; he was so generous with his time, he was a great communicator, and he always knew how to make his parishioners smile. I was fortunate to attend Christ Church basically from Kindergarten through College and so I know the dedication that Father Hemenway had to the Church, the people, and the community. I rarely missed church on Sunday as a young person. I enjoyed the sermons and I especially enjoyed listening to the organ music of Mrs. Hemenway. Thank you for sharing Father Hemenway with us – you know and I know the countless ways that he went above and beyond. My mom and many of the people from the Christ Church community have passed, and so; on their behalf I must say, “Thanks Gus.” You were blessed in many ways and you shared your blessings with us.

Father Hemenway will always be cherished by my family, particularly for the work he did and the support he provided to us and many others in the 1960's. He and Father Alan Mason were highly instrumental in improving our lives during difficult times in South Providence. He will never be forgotten.
