Christine McDONALD Obituary

McDONALD, CHRISTINE
Cherished Sister and Adored Aunt, Christine McDonald passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at The Miriam Hospital in Providence after a brief illness. She was born September 10, 1939 to the late J. Frank McDonald and Madelyn (Radigan) McDonald in Woonsocket.
A lifelong communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church, she taught fifth grade for thirty-five years at Woonsocket's Bernon Heights Elementary School. She was a graduate of St. Charles Elementary School of Woonsocket, St. Xavier Academy of Providence, and Rhode Island College.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Polly McDonald, of Narragansett, nieces Kathleen McDonald and her husband Lewis Greitzer of Vermont; Ann Murphy and her husband William of Narragansett; Margaret McDonald and her husband Jeffrey Wiatrowski of Newport, and her nephew, James McDonald and his wife Kathleen of Medfield, MA; five great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Retired from teaching in 1997, she was active in local volunteer activities in her beloved Woonsocket: she undertook multiple ministries at St. Charles Church, including years of teaching Religious Education (CCD), and serving as a Lector, as well as a regular server at the parish food pantry. She also worked at the Off-Campus Bookstore in Providence for many years. Christine enjoyed going out to breakfast and lunch with her friends, spending time with her family, and serving St. Charles Parish.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday, July 7, 2017 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 190 North Main St., Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the St. Charles Borromeo Church. holtfuneralhome.com

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Christine's family and friends. I first met Christine through my husband Tom who taught fifth grade for a few years at Bernon Heights School where Christine also taught.
I later came to know Christine at St. Charles Church where Christine was a devoted and dedicated parishioner. I had the pleasure of serving with her as we were involved with many of the same church ministries. I always respected and admired her commitment and resolve She will be greatly missed!

When I was a student in at Harris School, Miss McDonald was our student teacher. We loved her because she was a great teacher and so kind to everyone. I only knew her for a short time, but I've always remembered her.

Christine was a very dear friend to my sisters. And one of the nicest persons I knew. May she now enjoy her reward. It is well earned.
