CORRINNE WISEMAN Obituary

WISEMAN, CORRINNE (EDWARDS), 85, of Sunnybrook Dr., passed away on Saturday October 17, 2009 at home after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of CDR E. Robert Wiseman, USN (RET) for 65 wonderful years.

Born in Albany, New York, to the late C. Martin Edwards and Madeline (Hurd) Edwards, she was a proud graduate of the Milne School and attended Syracuse University. As a Navy wife for 23 years, she moved her family 22 times to 8 states and Naples, Italy, before settling in North Kingstown in 1965. She returned to college and graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1966, majoring in Sociology and Psychology. She served as Assistant Alumni Director at URI until retiring in 1972. Mrs. Wiseman was a volunteer case worker with the Kent County Mental Health Day Care Center in the 1970's. In the 1980's, she was editorial assistant to the noted artist and book illustrator Fritz Eichenberg until his death in 1991. She worked at the Sign of the Unicorn Bookshop in Peace Dale and North Kingstown. She and her husband volunteered for the Newport Music Festival, the Newport Art Museum, the Newport Historical Society and the Newport Preservation Society for many years. She was a life member of the North Kingstown Free Library and Smith Castle in North Kingstown, and a long time member of the Kingston Hill Book Club. She was a member of the Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich since 1960. Corrinne loved reading, music, art history and was an avid traveler returning often to Italy, Greece and England. With her husband, she served on the board of the Foyer Unitas in Piazza Navona, Rome. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Robin Wiseman and his wife Carol of Providence and Christopher Wiseman of North Kingstown, brother Martin Edwards of Albany, New York, sisters Marie Fox of Flint, Michigan and Gloria Johnston of Charleston, South Carolina, and granddaughter Sasha Wiseman of Providence. She was the sister of her late brother Richard Bradford Edwards. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to the Caring Circle Westminister Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Ave., East Greenwich, RI 02819 will be much appreciated.
