Cynthia Samaras Obituary

SAMARAS, CYNTHIA, 74, of Boston MA and Cranston RI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 29, 2016. Born in Clinton, MA, she was the beloved daughter of Mary Samaras and the late Spiro Charles Samaras. Besides her mother, Cynthia is survived by her brother Charles S. Samaras and his wife Deborah of Narragansett and her sister Nikki Deary of Cranston. Cynthia had a love of learning, languages and international affairs and lived a life reflecting the multicultural world in which she lived and worked. After graduating from Cranston East High School, she pursued a prestigious education including Pembroke College at Brown University then graduating from the University of Chicago. She later furthered her studies at Harvard University's Romance Language Program and l'Universite Paris-Sorbonne. Fluent in more than five languages, Cynthia's career in international communication, spanning more than 47 years, connected her with government, religious, corporate and cultural leaders from throughout the world as she provided language and translation services to her global clientele. In her earlier professional life, Cynthia was the director of the Berlitz School of Languages in Boston as well as in Cincinnati. In 1984, she became the owner, CEO and Executive Director of the inlingua School of Languages and Boston Translation Company in the Park Square Building in downtown Boston. Cynthia loved Boston and was a resident of historic Beacon Hill since 1985. With fond memories of her childhood summers spent in Clinton, MA, Cynthia will also be remembered by her aunt Angela Chiavaras Panichas of Lincoln RI and her several first and second cousins from her large Greek family of Samaras, Kokkalis, Wellen and Chiavaras relatives from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Cynthia's family is grateful for the love and support she received from her life partner Peter Loos of Boston and her dedicated Executive Assistant at the inlingua School of Languages, Barbara McCarron. Helen Keller is quoted as saying "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart". Cynthia's graceful beauty, love and courage touched our hearts but most especially the hearts of all her family. Truly, her memory will be eternal. Calling hours will be FRIDAY July 1st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910. Dear Mary,Nikki,Chuck and Peter.
I am so sorry for the loss of such a beautiful person. Cynthia was 11 years older than I was and was the person who stayed overnight at the house when my brother Eric was born. She was around whenever I came to play at the Cranston house with Nikki, my best friend...which was often. You were always so warm and welcoming. I remember spending many hours in your family's company.
I am sorry that I didn't find out about the services until too late to pay my respects. Cynthia was such an accomplished woman, I am sorry for your loss.
