Edward Cosgrove Obituary

COSGROVE, EDWARD
93, of East Greenwich, RI, Naples, FL and formerly of Danielson, CT passed away at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI on Tuesday, June 5. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Cosgrove, a marriage of 66 wonderful years. He was the son of the late Edward and Roseanna Cosgrove, and brother of the late Frances DiFiore and brother-in-law of the late Rado DiFiore. Edward was also the father of Steven Cosgrove and Laurie Riester, both of NH. He was the grandfather of Kaitlyn Riester of MA and John Riester and Dr. Melissa Previte (John's soon-to-be wife), both of RI. He was also the father-in-law of Candace Cosgrove and former father-in-law of Dr. Fred Riester. His love for his family and friends was infinite.
Edward was born and raised in Providence. A WWII veteran with staff sergeant ranking, he completed 35 missions as an armorer-gunner in the U.S. Army Air Forces. After his service, he completed a two-year degree program at Bryant College (now Bryant University). Then, he embarked on a 40+ year career in the petroleum and convenience store industries, serving as the president of Warren Equities, Inc. from 1972 to 1992. He felt very fortunate to have loved his job.
Edward also served as a vice president on the board of directors of the Warren Alpert Foundation, which recognizes and honors scientists, physicians and researchers whose work has led to the prevention, cure or treatment of human diseases or disorders.
Edward's core values were loyalty, honesty, generosity and charity. He strived to positively impact the lives of everyone with whom he came into contact: his family, friends, business associates and acquaintances. He, and his infectious laugh, will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 12 at 9:00A.M. from "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home (600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00A.M. at St. Gregory the Great Church (360 Cowesett Rd., Warwick). Burial with Military Honors will follow at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery (301 South Country Trail, Exeter).
Visiting hours are at "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home on Monday, June 11, 4:00P.M. – 8:00P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please share memories and condolences at WoodlawnGattone.com
