Elizabeth Stultz Obituary

STULTZ, ELIZABETH 79, resident of Barrington, died peacefully at home on April 10, 2016. Beloved wife of Newell Stultz, loving mother of Elliot Stultz of Chicago and Amy Kormos and her husband William Kormos of Lexington, MA, she was a devoted grandmother of Olivia, Emily, and Sophie Kormos. She is also survived by her sisters Adriana Oosthuizen, Sonja Kruger, and Salome Coetzee, and eleven nieces and nephews. Born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1936, she was the second of four daughters of Schalk and Gezina Olckers of that city. Educated in social work at the University of Pretoria, from which she graduated with honors in 1958, she came that same year to the United States and shortly married Newell Stultz, whom she had previously known at her university. She moved to Rhode Island in 1965. In 1972, she commenced a 22-year career at Bradley Hospital in East Providence. Beginning in 1995, she held a similar position at Butler Hospital's Alcohol and Addiction Center in Providence, followed by a further 19 months helping establish the new Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation. She returned to South Africa on various occasions. Formally retiring at the beginning of 2001, she later served for some years as a volunteer at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, and also with Home and Hospice Care. She attended the Congregational Church, first in Providence and then in Barrington. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Johns Church in Barrington. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you consider a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
