Helen Demers Obituary

DEMERS, HELEN LILLIAN (FOLEY) lifelong North Smithfield resident, age 93, serenely passed to the other side, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Predeceased by her husband, Harold V. Demers, Sr. They were married in 1942 and began their family of one daughter and two sons, Jan Demers of North Smithfield, formerly of Washington, DC , Harold V. and his wife, Diane of Greenville and Robert J. of Scituate, Massachusetts. Helen's consummate skills as mother and homemaker gave these lucky kids much love and a secure and happy childhood often talked about but rarely achieved. Helen was a graduate of Woonsocket High School, a charter member of the Woonsocket Women' s Club and a lifelong member of the Sigma Delta Club. She was also a competitive bridge player. She is predeceased by her parents, Henry J. and Margaret (McAuliffe) Foley, her sisters, Mary Potenza and Madonna O'Brien. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandsons, Benjamin Demers and his wife Marisa of Pasadena, CA and Stephen Demers of Washington, DC and her great grandson, Grant of Pasadena, CA and her brother Henry L. Foley of Rehoboth, MA and her sister, Agnes Crook of Dedham, MA and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church St., North Smithfield. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5 - 8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Smithfield Fire and Rescue Association, 1470 Providence Pike, North Smithfield, RI 02896. www.holtfuneralhome.com
