Howard Holt Obituary

HOLT, HOWARD R. 82, of Wakefield, died peacefully, on October 6, 2014 at South County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beverly A. (Burgess) Holt. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Wallace S. and Amy (Barker) Holt. A Funeral Director for more than fifty years, he was the former owner of Curtis J. Holt's Sons in Woonsocket. Howard graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1950, URI in 1954 and New England Institute of Mortuary Science. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Howie had been an active member of the former First Universalist Church, served on the Board of Directors for the former Woonsocket Hospital and the former Eastland Bank. He had also been involved in numerous community projects as a resident of North Smithfield for many years including serving on the Building Committee of the North Smithfield High School. Above all, he will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his profession and the community, while his energetic spirit and gregarious personality enriched the lives of his many friends. He is survived by his children, Kimberly Holt of Wakefield, Patricia Bartlett and her husband, Greg of Kingston, NH, Curtis H. Holt and his fiancé, Danielle Bouliane of Glocester and Pamela Holt-Kane and her husband, Gary Kane of Arlington, MA, his 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Holt, and his siblings, Judith Porter, Craig and Wallace Holt. His funeral will be held October 11, 2014 at 1PM in the Slatersville Congregational Church, On the Common, Slatersville. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Smithfield Road, North Smithfield. Calling hours are Friday, October 10, 2014 from 5PM to 8PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6TH Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. www.holtfuneralhome.com

My condolences to the Holt family. Your dad was such a kind, compassionate and inspirational person. He always was quick with a smile and kind words. I always enjoyed an unexpected meeting with your dad, usually in a North Smithfield restaurant! You must all be so proud of him!
