98, of Cranston passed away on Monday August 2, 2021 at Riverview Nursing Home in Coventry. She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Swiney.
Born in Cranston, she was the daughter of the late Seraph and Esther (Sarkissian) Talanian. Irene was a librarian for the Providence Journal for 12 years. Before she left the Providence Journal she became active in the formation of the American Newspaper Guild in 1962. She also worked as a librarian at the Chicago Sun Times in Chicago, IL where she witnessed the 1968 Democratic National Convention. She moved to Tryon, NC as an Assistant Librarian at the Polk County Library; was a board member of the Tryon Arts Committee; member of the YMCA; and the Armenian Evangelical Church.
She was the sister of the late Herbert, Gerald L., Hidy J., Armenouhi and Mary Talanian and Daisy Rose. Irene was the loving aunt of Joan Talanian, and James Talanian.
Her funeral will be private.
