James Campbell Obituary

CAMPBELL, JAMES D.
On March 10, 2018, Jim Campbell rode his final wave at his beloved South Shore Beach straight into eternity. In life, Jim was a devoted father, loving friend, and a compassionate coach and mentor to everyone he knew. A proud scholar athlete he excelled in every endeavor he engaged in, from track and field to lacrosse, from surfing to painting. Born and raised in Seekonk, Massachusetts, Jim built a wonderful life for his family as a successful salesman at the Lindenmeyr Munroe paper company, a position he held for 40 years before retiring late last year. Upon moving to Little Compton in 1994, Jim quickly became a pillar of the community he grew to love so dearly. A true embodiment of kindness and selflessness, Jim's legacy will live on in the memories of his two sons and wife, and in the hearts of the countless individuals lucky enough to have known his pure and gentle soul.
Jim passed peacefully on a sunny Saturday afternoon, surrounded by friends and family. His final days were marked by a tremendous celebration of his life, filled with love, kindness and music that reverberated like sunlight through the hospital halls. It was, by all accounts, the most breathtakingly beautiful few days the hospital had ever seen.
Jim is survived by his wife Leonora [Ouellette] Campbell, his two sons Lukas and Silas all of Little Compton, his sister Deborah Bellows of Warren, RI, his two half-brothers Scott Campbell of Tennessee, Mackenzie Campbell of New Hampshire, and his half-sister Kathryn Swenson of New Hampshire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John R. Campbell and was the son of the late Donald Campbell and Barbara Borne.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday March 18th from 1-5pm at the Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton RI, 02837.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jim Campbell to New England Donors Services, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451-1106.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I just heard of Jim's passing and am stunned. He was a long time customer who I fondly remember trading surf stories with, talking lacrosse, or hearing how proud he was of his sons accomplishments. He was genuine, a friend to all, and will be missed by many.

I'm writing again with hopes Debbie will see this entry. First I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My prayers for comfort and strength for the Jimmy's family. I lived across the street from the him on Colonial Rd. I have such fond memories of our life there. Debbie was resipiant of one if my first hair cuts. The days in were filled with innocents then. Jimmy was sweet and kind to my younger brother Bobby. I lost him last year. I can't believe the void his passing has been. Debbie I hope you are well and have years of memories to fill your days. Take care. God please bring them peace.

My sincerest sympathies to Jimmy's family and extended family. He was a kind quiet person who had a great sense of adventure and made it fun! I knew Jimmy at Dean and at Univ of New Haven. A group of us would head to Newport to watch him and others surf on the weekend anytime of year! He lived life to the fullest! May God bless you and give you the strength you need to heal.

I have very fond memories of surfing with Jimmy over the many seasons and all the surf spots in Little Compton & Sakonnet. I especially remember one summer day when we were both at South Shore with our families and we surfed goosewing (middle break). Nobody else was out because it was quite small. But we had a great time just chatting and being in the water.
Jimmy was such a friendly and kind individual.
Our condolences to Lee and Lucas & Silas.

the surfing picture is perfect...being a kid in Seekonk i never thought surfing was possible...Till i met Jimmy...I still remember my first time..The dark green company van with the paper logo on the side...He would fill the van with kids interested in trying..as a kid we couldn't afford a surfboard or wetsuit or get someone to drive us to the beach during miserable stormy weather and spend the whole day with us...... He would drive us to Narraganset and then share his surf board and wetsuit with us..I remember a winter day when he gave me a turn with his wetsuit and surfboard it was so cold you had to have a wetsuit hoodie and booties on and I ran back into the van after one quick try and said i cant do it my face was stinging cold...and he took a big jar of vassoline and smeared it all over covering my face....sharing a great lesson in where there is a will there is a way.....Ive had some of the best days of my life surfing/trying to surf since that day.. and now i am sharing it with my two children...Here is a picture of my son and daughter last spring...... Parked at Narragansett in the exact same spot where Jimmy first took the time and effort to help me....I didn't develop his toughness to do winter surfing... But many times I've been parked in the spot at Narraganset struggling to stuff my children into their wet suits and everytime i am doing it i always tell the story of Jimmy covering my face with vassoline and telling me to get back out there.... My children and i thank you.....

I am so saddened to read the sad news about Jimmy. He and Johnny spent many hours at my home on Colonial Rd in Seekonk when they were growing up. They became like older brothers to my two sons and watched over them like so.
Jimmy was always a gentleman, kind, considerate and fun when he was growing up. Reading his obituary solidified how I knew he would be as an adult, father ,husband and friend. even though we did not cross paths as much anymore.
My sincerest sympathies and with saddened heart, please know the Hagenburg's are feeling your pain and sorrow.
