James Jankowski Obituary

JANKOWSKI, JAMES A. 68, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. He was the husband of Patricia J. (Ellsworth) Jankowski. Born in West Reading, PA, the son of the late Anthony F. and Lillian (Little) Jankowski, he graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and he received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Rhode Island College. Jim served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as an aircraft maintenance specialist and crew chief. He was a special education teacher at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School for almost 30 years retiring in 1999. He was a Mason and a past master of Manchester Lodge 12 F&AM, Anthony. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, the Rhode Island Shriners and the Shrine Motor Corps. He was a member of the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge, the Anthony PNA, the Crompton Vets Association and the American Legion. Jim loved to travel, especially during the winter months along the Florida Gulf Coast. Anytime he could he loved driving his Corvette or riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time with friends; playing golf and fishing. Jim often told a good joke or two. He was a "big guy" who had a "big heart" and a guy who lived life to the fullest. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons: Peter J. Jankowski of Warwick and Michael M. Jankowski of Seattle, WA; one sister: Lynn McDonald (Thomas) of East Sandwich, MA and two nieces: Kelly McDonald of Wakefield, MA; niece, Jennifer McDonald (Mathew Rushton) of Caanan, NY. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 16 from 4-7 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick during which a Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 AM in SS. John & Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Interment with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, 3445 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114. I just heard about Jim's passing. We were very close when we were young. Jim, Fred and I were almost like brothers. We spent many hours together at his parents home and at my mother and grandmothers as well. We also went to school together at Tyler School in Providence and Bishop Hendricken as well. I want to express my condolences to his wife and two sons as well as his sister Lynn. I am sorry that I will not be there tomorrow but will be there in spirit. I wil miss him.
