James Rollins Obituary

ROLLINS, JAMES I., 62, of Niblick Circle, died Sunday at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston after a lengthy illness.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Irving and Alice (Reynolds) Rollins, he was the stepson of Nellie MacPherson Rollins of Forestdale. He was a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School and of Barrington College where he was an Admissions Counselor and Director of Alumni Relations for several years. Jim was an avid skier and tennis player. For 24 years he was general manager of the Centre Court Tennis Club in East Providence where he ran hundreds of tennis tournaments and clinics for all ages. He was a nationally ranked player and member of the United States Tennis Association. He was involved in USTA Adult Leagues and was the captain of the Centre Court teams that competed, with regular success, in national championships.

Jim leaves a legacy of laughter and fun. He is especially remembered by his family as the organizer of family ski trips and as being instrumental in the founding and organizing of the 'What's It' Family Reunions.

Besides his step-mother, he is survived by his sister Jane E. Tarring and her husband George of Warwick; his brother the Rev. Paul Rollins and his wife Joan of Greene; five nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Andrew Rollins, Amy Tarring Sleep, Kim and Eric Tarring; an uncle and several cousins and their families.

His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 AM in Lakewood Baptist Church, 259 Atlantic Ave., Warwick. Relatives and friends invited and may call at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. What wonderful memories from way back in our Lakewood BYF days to our days at Barrington College, to Jimmy being in our wedding and always entertaining us with his quick humor. My sympathy to his family who have, out of love, been so faithful to care for him. His friendship is cherished. See you in heaven someday, Jimmy. Peace !
