John Carr Obituary

CARR, JOHN "JACK" B.
Age 86, passed away on December 8, 2017 at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI. He was a resident at Brookdale in East Providence, and previously resided in Barrington, RI for 43 years. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, the son on John B. Carr Sr. and Angela (Civitella) Carr.
Jack was a graduate of Hamlin University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the end of the Korean War.
Jack had a successful career as a business executive. He started out as a salesman with Arkell & Smith and then as a Purchasing Manager at General Foods. He worked for St. Regis Paper Company for 25 years, and worked his way up from Sales Rep. to Plant Manager to Director of Sales and Marketing to General Manager. He completed managerial courses at the Sloan School of Senior Management MIT, Columbia, Babson and Wharton. He also developed and conducted business management seminars for international licenses and at the U.R.I MBA school. At the time of his retirement, Jack was Executive V.P. Chief Operating Officer at iVEX Corp.
Jack was a golfer and member of R.I. Country Club for 25 years. He was a music aficionado who played the trumpet and loved all kinds of music, especially Dixieland and traditional Jazz. His was an avid fly fisherman who pursued the sport both in this country and abroad.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna J. Carr; his three daughters – Jill A. Ferrer, Lisa L. Carr, Amanda S. Carr (Michael Balch); and his brother Ronald K. Carr in Florida.
Services will be private.
