Dear Evelyn,

I was so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I am his cousin Manny's daughter and both he and my mom (Irene) and later step-mom, Phoebe, thought so much of the two of you. I am glad I had a chance to see you both again after so many years at Phoebe's wake last September. My deepest sympathies to you and your daughter. May God rest Joe's soul and be with you always.

I had the privilege of being Joe's doctor for a year recently and he was an inspiring person and patient. Always cheerful and respectful, decked out in his white tennis shorts. He bore the burden of his disease quietly and gracefully. He was a very dignified man who reminded me of a sea captain for some reason. He will be missed by Bristol and myself. Rest in Peace Captain.
