Leo Picard Obituary

PICARD, LEO E., 76, of Tifft Road, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at the Eleanor Slater Hospital, Cranston. He was the former husband of the late Louise (DeStefano) Picard.

He was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Leo and Eva (Anson) Picard.

Mr. Picard was the owner and operator of the former Picard Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen, Inc., before retiring. He was also the owner and operator; along with his brother, of the former Picard Motor Sales. He was also the owner of the former Picard Racing Team. He was the Past President of the R.I.A.D.A. and Past President of the New England Morgan Horse Association. He was the founder of R.I. International Auto Show and was the owner and operator of Troutbrook Farm in North Smithfield.

Mr. Picard was also instrumental in starting the Providence Mounted Command. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.

He leaves one daughter, Sandra L. Szumita and her husband Kenneth R. of Smithfield, one sister; Lorraine Poole of Seekonk and one brother; Bradford Picard of Cumberland and two grandchildren.

His Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM in the PERRY/McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River, MA. Calling hours Friday 5:00-8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Patients for Progress, c/o Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit, in memory of Leo E. Picard, 2090 Wallum Lake Road, Pascoag, RI 02859, would be deeply appreciated.
