Lester Friedman Obituary

FRIEDMAN, DR. LESTER M., M.D., 90, of Warwick, died Sunday, January 2, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Lipson) Friedman. They were married for 58 years. Born in Bronx, NY and raised in Newport, a son of the late A. Max and Bertha (Goldschneider) Friedman, he had lived in Warwick for 57 years. Dr. Friedman was in the private practice of Internal Medicine in Warwick and still made house calls until his retirement. Dr. Friedman was a member of the American Medical Association and the Rhode Island Medical Society. He was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received his Medical Degree from Rochester Medical School in New York. He was a WW-II Army veteran serving as a captain with the 1st Infantry Division, 26th Regiment in the European Theater. Lester was a highly decorated officer earning 3 Bronze Stars and other various medals. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was in D-Day plus 4. He was also present in the Nuremburg Trials. He was a member of Temple Beth-El and a former member of Temple Emanu-El. Devoted father of William J. Friedman and his wife Maureen A. of Barrington and Robert L. Friedman of North Andover, MA. Dear brother of Dr. Gilbert R. Friedman of West Palm Beach, FL. Loving grandfather of Meredith, Alexander, David and Michael. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements by SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Cranston.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Friedman's passing. He was a physician and freind to my grandparents, Adolph and Fannie, and eventually my physician as well. I will never forget the story where he shook up my grandfather by saying that he could not be his doctor... because my grandfather had already outlived his previous three doctors. With that I offer the deepest sympathies of my family.

Condolences to the Friedman family. Dr. Friedman was my family's GP for years and was the consummate professional who cared about his patients and practiced medicine with a thoroughness and understanding that probably saved my mother's life.
