Marie Barylick

BARYLICK, MARIE ALLANA (TINSLEY) 64, of Providence and Little Compton, Rhode Island, died on Wednesday, April 23 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center from complications of lymphoma. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie (McNamara) Tinsley, Marie was married to John Barylick. Marie was a 1971 graduate of Brown University where she had featured roles in several theatrical productions. She later earned her M.B.A. at the University of Rhode Island while working for Brown's office of Alumni Relations. After teaching high school English in Madison, New Jersey, Marie worked as a technical support representative for IBM in Boston. A natural teacher who loved children (as much as she loved the Red Sox), Marie spent the remainder of her career training in-school volunteers for Inspiring Minds (formerly Volunteers in Providence Schools). Along the way, she served as a trustee of the Providence Country Day School and computerized the Lincoln School's library. Marie will be remembered as a loyal friend, generous of time and spirit, who was valued for her wise counsel and quick wit. She bore the burdens of her own illnesses with unfailing grace, always directing her energy in service of others. In addition to her husband of 43 years, Marie leaves her son, Chris Barylick of Berkeley, California, her daughter, Anne Barylick, of West Hartford, Connecticut, her sister, Suzanne Tinsley, of Stow, Massachusetts, a niece, two nephews and many, many cousins. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Sebastian, 67 Cole Avenue, Providence, RI 02906 on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11 am. Burial will be private.
