Howard Sager Obituary

Howard Nelson Sager Jr.
Loving husband, father and grandfather

LOWELL - Howard "Howie" Nelson Sager Jr. of Lowell, born December 2, 1940, passed away on July 3, 2018, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones, due to complications resulting from Parkinson's disease. He was the beloved husband of Carol Ann (Crowe) Sager of Lowell.

Raised in South Lowell, Howie was the eldest son of the late Howard Nelson Sager and Evelyn (Beauregard) Sager, owners of Sager's Dairy of Lowell. Howie was a Boy Officer at Lowell High School and after graduating with the class of 1958, went on to proudly serve his country in the Marine Corp Reserve. Howie married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann, lived in Belvidere and was President of Century 21 Sager Real Estate.

A true and lifetime lover of his hometown community, he was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Boys and Girls Club, the Lowell DeMolay and the Lowell Rotary Club, serving as President. Howie enjoyed playing tennis for years at Trull Brook with his good friends on Friday nights and loved playing golf, as a member of Vesper Country Club. He also loved his weekends with dear friends in Quechee, VT.

Howie and Carol moved to Scottsdale Arizona where they lived and loved more great friends and golf courses! They moved back to MA where they were active, doting grandparents, and he worked managing the Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate office in Belmont until his retirement in 2016.

In addition to his wife, Carol Ann, of 54 years, Howie is survived by his beloved daughters, Beth Sager and son-in-law John Bruce, Suzanne Sager and Martha Sager; and his 4 grandchildren Benjamin, Catherine, Cameron and Emerson Bruce - all of whom have been the wonderful beneficiaries of his most supreme love and pride. The eldest of his siblings, Howie is survived by his sisters and brothers - Sally Ann (Sager) Hall and brother-in-law James Hall, Arlene Sager, late brother James "Jimmy" Sager, Edmund Sager, Tom Sager and sister-in-law Debbie (Berube) Sager.

Having as close a relationship as two families can have, Howie was one with the Crowe family nearly all of his life and is survived by his sister-in-law Deborah (Crowe) McDonnell and late brother-in-law Gerald McDonnell, brother-in-law Robert Crowe and Christine (Samuelson) Crowe, brother-in-law Ronald Crowe and Robin (Ryder) Crowe, and sister-in-law Maryjane (Crowe) Barros and Joseph Barros. He was a treasured cousin and cherished uncle.

Howie's favorite song was "I'm looking over a four-leaf clover" which he would break into at full voice. He would lead every booming "Hip Hip Hooray" when any occasion called for it. There wasn't an ice cream stand he didn't know of. He never missed a wedding dance to "Through the Years" with his forever darling, Carol Ann. He was always in attendance to support and enjoy his kids and grandkids at recitals, sporting events or general life celebrations. He was an avid Boston-sports fan and adored cowboy movies. He stepped up to every challenge life delivered his family or friends with nothing short of heroism; always humble and actively supportive. His greatest happiness was simply and entirely the happiness of those he loved - especially his four girls.

SAGER - In lieu of traditional services, the family will host a Celebration of Life in Howie's honor at Howie and Carol Ann's home - 23 Fox Hill Lane in Dracut, MA. ALL are welcome! Come for 5 minutes or 5 hours (casual attire). The celebration will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 from 2pm-7pm with memories being shared from 4:30p - 5:30p. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Howie's Neurologist, Dr. Priya Shastri, who provided ever attentive and generous care. Donations in Howie's memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

I am so sad to hear of Howie's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at Sager Century 21 Real Estate, and he was always an honest, decent man. He always had time for the new agents with their endless questions, and he was an excellent mentor. I know how much he loved his family, and I know he will be very missed.
