BELTRAMI, DET. MATTHEW B., WWPD
age 42, died tragically on April 1, 2021. Born in Warwick, RI, he was the beloved son of Brian and Colleen (Limoges) Beltrami of North Fort Myers, FL. He was the amazing, devoted, and loving father of Aiden, Nathen and Vivienne Beltrami.
A graduate of Cranston High School East, Matt was heavily involved in the school band. He was in the Boy Scouts and earned the merit of Eagle Scout. Following high school, he attended University of RI where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in psychology and was a diehard Rhody Rams basketball fan. Prior to becoming a police officer, Matt worked at Butler Hospital where he began as an intern and became a compassionate and skilled mental health worker. In his downtime, he enjoyed cycling, hiking with his children, rooting on his boys at their sporting events, and attending concerts, especially those of his favorite band, 311. He also made many special memories with his dad while fishing.
As a 17-year veteran of the West Warwick Police Department, Matt was the epitome of the Department motto that emphasizes courage, sacrifice, and devotion. He was a decorated crisis negotiator, a diligent opioid response liaison, and an empathetic mental health first aid trainer who always stepped up to help people in need. A born leader, he proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then served his community as a police officer. Matt was a steadfast advocate for the mental health of all first responders and his dedication to this cause will be his legacy.
Matt's family would like to acknowledge the utmost gratitude and appreciation to all the federal and state agents that have played a role in the relief efforts.
In addition to his parents and children, Matt is survived by his sister: Christine Beltrami and her wife Maari (Stainer) of West Warwick; his nephews and niece: Samuel, Amelia, and Benjamin Beltrami; his wife: Trenna Beltrami of West Warwick; his first wife: Erika Beltrami of North Kingstown; and countless extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 19 from 5:00-7:00 PM at West Warwick Civic Center, 100 Factory Street, West Warwick. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 11:00 AM at West Warwick Civic Center, followed by military honors. Facial coverings must be worn and social distancing must be practiced.
