Meredith Rao Obituary

RAO, MEREDITH V., 29, of South Attleboro, died unexpectedly on March 5, 2009.

Born in Providence, she was the beloved daughter of Robert J. Rao and Nancy A. (Cacicio) Rao Birch, R.N. and her husband, Dr. James H. Birch, Jr., M.D., all of Attleboro.

She was a 1998 graduate of Attleboro High School. She later attended Bristol Community College.

Ms. Rao was formerly employed by Golden Living Center - Garden Place in Attleboro as a dietary aide. In more recent years she worked with developmentally delayed children with multiple handicaps.

Her kind heart, gentle soul and sense of humor made her a 'natural' to care for others.

Her presence will be missed by all who loved her.

In addition to her devoted parents and stepfather, she leaves to mourn her cherished 8-year old daughter, Jocelyn Taylor and her father, John J. Taylor; her very special brother: Bradford M. Rao of Patagonia, Arizona and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was the paternal granddaughter of the late Armando and Katherine (Puliafico) Rao and was the maternal granddaughter of the late George T. and Dorothy P. (Riley) Cashman.

Visitation on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the 'Memorial Chapel' of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at top of exit, proceed 3/4 mile, on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 18 Baltic Street, South Attleboro.

At the family's request, they ask that their wish for a private committal service be honored due to family illness. Private burial at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket will be held for the immediate family only following the funeral Mass.

Dear Nancy,
My childhood best friend. I don't know how or why I came across this obituary
while searching for a client of mine named Michael Rao. When Meredith's picture came up and I saw her beautiful smile I knew she could only be your daughter. Nancy, I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful child.I cannot imagine such pain. I was also saddened to learn of your Mom's passing through the website.I certainly have fond memories of our youth and remember many special dinners at your home. Please get in touch with me since I don't know where you live or an address for you.
I am sorry to reach you like this but would dearly love to reconnect.I moved away from Winthrop several years ago and live in Swampscott with my husband Jim.I have lost touch with just about everyone we grew up with.Hope to hear from you.

To The Rao Family,

I am so glad that you allowed me to keep this guest book open until 4/2010. Since her her passing was so sudden and unexpected it seemed to make sense to provide an opportunity to everyon to share their memories and feelingss
I can still visualize Meri sitting in my living room with Jocelyn. Sometimes I expect that she'll be there again. But I know this will only be in my dreams, fantasies and memories.
I have so many regrets that we did not spend enough time together--but cherish the time we had.
It's hard to let her go. Of course, you know this much more than I do.
I love you all.

Meri, just the other day I drove by a spot we use to hang out when we were young, it made me smile and also miss you! you were there for me through so much,I know you are with your nana now and that would make you happy! jocelyn will always know through your family and friends what a special and caring person you were! I love you and you'll always be in my heart.

Bridget,

We want to thank you so much for your thoughtfulness by extending the time that Meredith's Guest Book will remain active. We miss Meredith so much and cannot express in words the depth of our love for her. We are comforted knowing that Meredith and her warm smile touched so many lives in the ways that are described here by those who knew and loved her. We are also comforted knowing that Meredith has been called to join God in Heaven where her warm smile will continue for an eternity. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness as we continue to access this site in the days ahead.

March 20, 2009

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear aunt Nancy, uncle Bob and family,
Brittany and I love Meri so much. Meri and Jocelyn have been such a big part of our lives. Meri may not be with us in body but will live on in our hearts and our memories. She has left us a gift and the biggest piece of herself, Jocelyn. I know that Meri will be with her every moment. Brittany and I would be honored if you would let us be a big part of her life. Brittany has always thought of Jocelyn as her little sister. They have and will always share something special. I know that whenever we are spending time with Jocelyn that Meri will be there too.
All my love and prayers,

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, I did not die..."

If tears could build a stairway,
And memories were a lane.
I would walk right up to heaven,
To bring you home again.

No time to say good-bye.
You were gone before i knew it,
And only God knows why.

My heart still aches in sadness.
And my secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.

You and angels around Gods happy throne.
I would have held you closer if i had known.
