Muriel Flood Obituary

FLOOD, MURIEL R. (KEEMA), 84 of Wickford, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Roberts Health Center in North Kingstown. Mrs. Flood was born in Woonsocket, RI to the late Al and Ethel Keema. She is a direct descendent Mayflower passenger, William White and a member of the Rhode Island Society of Mayflower Descendants. She attended Skidmore College where she graduated with the class of 1948. She maintained an active role in alumni activities throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Flood is survived by Leslie Flood, her husband of over sixty years, her daughter, Victoria Flood McDonnell of Mystic, CT and her son, Allen Flood of Orlando, FL. Her family members also include son-in-law Charles McDonnell, daughter-in-law Judy Flood and granddaughter Elizabeth Flood. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Al Keema. Mrs. Flood was a dedicated homemaker and a tireless civic citizen. She was a member and past-president of the North Kingstown Women's Club, a Friend and former member of the Board of Trustees for the North Kingstown Library, and a member of the North Kingstown Land Conservation Society for over twenty-five years. She assumed active roles in the Poplar Point Association, the Wickford Yacht Club, the Westminster Unitarian Church of East Greenwich, the Plum Beach Lighthouse Preservation Society, and The League of Woman Voters. For decades, she volunteered as a driver for FISH of North Kingstown and Exeter and an Election Day polling worker. In 1995, she and her husband were honored as recipients of the Albert Henry Community Service Award. A memorial celebration to honor Mrs. Flood will be held at the Wickford Yacht Club, 165 Pleasant Street, North Kingstown, RI on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Vicki and Loved Ones...Please accept my condolences on Mom's passing. I always loved 'bumping into' Mom and Dad at Richard's Pub. It seemed we were there, frequently, at the same dinner hour. I'm glad for that, in that it gave me the opportunity to see them and say 'Howdy'! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am hoping that this just can not be the only Muriel that I knew from the North Kingstown Library book club."Short" Muriel with the terrific vibrant smile.I just saw on line today and I am in shock!!!!! I am at a loss for words right now other than to convey the deepest of sympathies to the family of Muriel.
