Nancy Ehrlich Obituary

EHRLICH, NANCY BAND of Concord, MA and Providence, RI passed away unexpectedly on the evening of December 7, 2015 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. She was 70 years old. She was born Nancy Lou Band on February 23, 1945 to Jules and Beulah Band, in New York, NY. She graduated from the High School for Music and Art and Columbia University, both in New York. She is succeeded by her loving husband, Dr. Michael Ehrlich, The Chief of Orthopedics at the Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals and Chairman of Orthopedics at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, her sons, Christopher and Timothy, their wives Sara and Isabella, four grandchildren, Charlotte, Harrison, August and Julian and her brother Richard. In addition to being the centerpiece of her family, Nancy was also a scholar (she received several Masters' Degrees from Columbia, Brandeis and Rhode Island College), a talented interior architect, an historian (she was involved with helping to restore the Caesar Robbins' House in Concord) and a patron of the arts (she served on the board of directors of the Rhode Island Philharmonic). She was also an avid gardener, knitter and needle pointer. Finally, she was committed to various social causes, having served on the boards of the Providence Children's Museum and Family Services. Passionate about social justice, at age 60, she, once again, went back to school to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work. This enabled her to be able to provide life-changing guidance to seniors in Rhode Island. Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth El, 70 Orchard Ave in Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday, December 10, at 1 pm EST. Receptions for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 10 at 454 Monument Street in Concord, Massachusetts from 5-7 pm and on Friday, December 11 at the Hope Club, 6 Benevolent Street, Providence, RI from 2-5 pm. Those interested in honoring her name can make a tax-deductible contribution to the "Nancy Band Ehrlich Fund for the Arts" to Washington Trust Wealth Management, 10 Weybosset Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02903. Dear Ehrlich family:
I was saddened to hear of Nancy's passing and send you my sincere condolences.
Beulah and Jules Band were my first cousins on my Father's side (Alex and Helen Hamburg)and Nancy and her family were very much a part of my growing up years. Unfortunately, we lost touch as adults.
I was delighted to read in her obituary that she had such a meaningful life and know that she will be sorely missed by her family and her community.

I was told of Nancy's passing on 12/18 and am deeply saddened. I worked with Nancy at RI Hospital's Dept. of Psychiarty. She always greeted me with a smile, a hug and conversation.

My deepest condolences to Nancy's family. The tragic and unexpected passing of a loved is especially difficult. I lost my brother the very same way this past April.

Nancy was a very special woman and she will be missed very much.

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting and working with Nancy when she shopped at Clad in, in Providence, RI's Wayland Square. It wasn't really work- with Nancy it was play; her whirlwind appointments with me were peppered with her wry wit, her intelligence, her love of art, culture, fashion, and most of all, her love of her husband. She was extraordinary, and I will miss her.

Dr. Ehrlich &Family.
Shocked and saddened by the loss of such a beloved and incredible wife, mother and gift to the community. As with my loss of Milt, words are inadequate to express how painful it is except to seek comfort in having had the gift of sharing a life with such beautiful, loving person. My heart is with all of you.
