Mary Ann Newman

1926 - 2014

Mary Ann Newman 11/30/1926 - 7/06/2014 Mary Ann was proud of her farming family and spoke of them often. Born in Rupert, Idaho to Theresa and Herman Henscheid, she was the first of four children. Mary Ann was a Marin County resident since 1952. A parishioner of St. Hilary's parish in Tiburon since 1956, she taught CCD classes for their Religious Education program, and sang in the church choir. She earned her BS at St. Mary's college in Kansas, and became a dietician. She was married to Kenneth Newman for 34 years until his death in 1986. Mary Ann enjoyed traveling the Western states with her husband Ken in their motor home, or traveling in Europe. Although limited with the use of her left hand from a childhood incident, she played the piano beautifully. In addition, she was on a bowling league, created beautiful needlepoint, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and followed professional golf on T.V. She was always ready to make people laugh with her comedic and sly jokes. When her grandchildren were young, she enjoyed taking care of them and teaching them how to be creative. Mary Ann is survived by her two sons, Richard Newman (Linda) of Napa and James Newman (Diane) of Tiburon, and three grandchildren, Theresa Newman of Alaska, Kyle Newman (Katie) of Napa, and Lindsy Ward (Justin) of Novato. She is also survived by two brothers, her sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 15th at her beloved St. Hilary Church, 761 Hilary Drive, Tiburon. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Mary Ann's name would be preferred.
