Philip Almagno Obituary
90 of Pocasset Avenue. Providence passed away January 12, 2018. {He} was the beloved husband of Lucy (Vinacco) Almagno.
A lifelong resident of the Silver Lake section of Providence, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Moscato) Almagno.
Phil was the chief of Weights and Measures for the City of Providence from 1982 – 2003 after which he became a private contractor for the State of Rhode Island: Dept. of Weights and Measures until retiring in 2012. He also owned and operated Sharkey's Wholesale Fruit and Produce. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran and a Member of the Public employees' Local 1033. He was an avid gardener and New York Yankee fan.
Mr. Almagno was very active in the community and was a 2 term Councilman for the City's 7th ward, a member of the St. Bartholomew Holy Name Society, Sons of Italy; Piava Lodge, President of the Rosario Society, Past President of the Holy Name Society and the Seventh Ward Democratic Committee. In addition, he belonged to the RI Bocce League, United Commercial Travelers, Hope Council Knights of Columbus, Olneyville Little League, Pontecorvo Reunion Committee, Silver Lake Annex Board and the Providence Fraternal Order of Police
He was the father of Sandra Marshall and her husband Brian, Sr. Cathy Almagno, John P. Almagno and his wife Lori, Nancy Almagno and the late Ann Marie Massarone; grandfather of Melissa Renner and her husband Josh, Laurie DeOliveirra and her husband Jerry, Nicholas Massarone, John P. Almagno, Jr. and his wife Felicia, Kimberly Massarone and Stephen Almagno; great grandfather of Mason and Dylan DeOliveirra, Lincoln Renner and Guiliana Shanley; brother of Connie Martinelli and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 am from the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Bartholomew Church, 297 Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence. Graveside burial to follow in St. Ann Cemetery. VISITATION WEDNESDAY 4-8 PM. I always called him uncle but he really was my grandmother's nephew. I will never forget the celebrations we had in the back yard of his home, I was a kid.
To Phillip... I will never forget you or everything you have done for your family and your community. You will truly be missed by everyone who knew you.

Let me extend my condolences to you and your family for the loss of your father. I was just a kid growing up in Silver Lake on Pocasset Avenue in the 1950's when I first met Sharkey. That was a long time ago, but I still remember like it was yesterday seeing him driving the food delivery truck and helping everyone in the neighborhood.

Karen, and I were so sorry to hear of Phil's passing. Phil will always have a special place in my heart, and I will never forget all the cherished moments we shared together when Ann Marie was alive.
