Richard Gladney Obituary

Gladney, Richard "Rick"
Richard "Rick" Gladney, a Barrington resident for more than 54 years, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the young age of 63. Rick was born in Minneapolis, MN, the son of the late Arthur and Helen (Popeo) Gladney
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen, and his three children, Kristin Gladney (David Bookman), Kyle Gladney (Leslie) and Eric Gladney. He was the beloved brother of Arthur, Paul, James and Lee (Jensen). He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Richardson and niece, Brittany Richardson. He was a loving and devoted Papa to Bryson, Corbin, Vincent, and Thea.
Rick spent much of his childhood in Barrington. He was a 1972 graduate of Barrington High School, where he was an All State baseball player. He continued to have a close relationship with his high school friends throughout his life. He graduated from URI in 1976, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree and was a member of Phi-Kappa Psi fraternity and ROTC. He was employed by EF Hutton and Morgan Stanley and began his long career as a financial advisor. He received his advanced certifications for financial and estate planning. Rick was the Senior Vice President-Investment Officer for The Gladney Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. He joined Wells Fargo Advisors (formerly Wachovia Securities) in 2000. While at Wells Fargo, he held the Premier Advisor President's Council designation, held by a select group of Financial Advisors within the firm reflecting a superior level of professional achievement. Rick believed in personal service and he truly cared about his clients, their stories and their lives, and took pride in treating each of them like a family member.
Perhaps more than anything else, Rick believed strongly in the importance of helping others. He as the recipient of the "Community Hero Award" from the Red Cross and Blue Cross. He was an ambassador of the United Way of Rhode Island, served on the Professional Advisory Committee of the RI Foundation, and remained active with Make-A-Wish of RI for over 20 years. Rick regularly volunteered at local soup kitchens as well as helping to organize golf tournaments and fundraising activities for several local nonprofit organizations such as The Boy's and Girl's Club of Pawtucket, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Amos House and The Women Resource Center, among others.
Rick enjoyed golfing and was a member of Wannamoisett Country Club. However, Rick's greatest pride and joy in life was the love of family and friends.

To Karen and Family, I´m not sure you remember me but worked with Rick at Kidder, Peabody back in the 1980´s/1990´s. Today I saw an old friend from KP who told me Rick had passed away. I just read his obituary, and may I say my deepest condolences to you and your family. I will always remember Rick as a wonderful friend working with him at KP and am not surprised to see all his accomplishments...a life cut too short.
With deepest sympathy,
Roxanne (Elmasian),Donoyan

KAREN and family, It´s funny that I should get this email because I was thinking of Rick just the other day. I always see him with a smile on his face. There was a time when I was at work and had a health issue. Rick sat down with me and made sure I was OK before I started to move around again. I do know what you are going through as I lost my beloved husband Vaughn six months ago. As you know, we do not know what tomorrow may bring. So enjoy each day that God has given us. With sympathy and understanding, Eileen Leonard.

Dear Karen and Family:

You all put together a wonder memorial for Rick in such a short time. It doesn't hurt to tell you once again that Rick was great. Rick gave me a handbag from his sister after she passed away. I still have the bag. I put the $2 bill I received from my visit in the bag and will keep your family close to my heart.

Wishing you all the best memories.

Best,

Karen,
When Steve called me the day Rick passed
away, I was in shock and felt so sad that he was gone and still am now. From the first day I met him in high school, I knew he was not only a great guy, but someone that had that extra special something that made him stand out from the rest, someone you liked being around, someone you wanted as a friend. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by so many who knew him.
Take care and my thoughts are with you
and your family.

Karen, Kristin, Kyle and Eric,

I am still in shock and somewhat still in denial over my good friend's passing. I can't stop thinking about never seeing or talking to him again, either on the golf course, in the office or when he just calls to say hi.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers and if there is anything I can do for you, either now or in the future, please do not hesitate to call me.

Karen and family: Gene and I so very sorry for your tragic loss. We will always remember Rick's beautiful smile that lit up a room. We will always remember his joy at playing with his grandchildren. Gene will sorely miss playing golf with his buddy. We will just plainly miss him at the LeBaron.
His legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren.
