ROBERT R. "BOBBY" McELROY

McELROY, ROBERT R. "BOBBY" age 62, of Indian Land, SC died peacefully at his home April 23, 2015. He was born and brought up in the Fox Point section of Providence. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Farias) McElroy. He was a son of Mary (Gonsalves) McElroy and the late Bartholomew J. McElroy. For over 43 years he had worked at the Narragansett Electric Company in Providence, New England Power, P.G. & E., and Dominion Energy at Brayton Point, Somerset, MA and most recently Dominion Energy, Mt. Storm, WV. Mr. McElroy's most enjoyable time was spent fishing the beaches of Cape Cod for striped bass with his Dad and many friends from the Brayton Point Power Station. He spent many hours building plastic car models and airbrushing them as a hobby. He played in Bowling Leagues and Dart Board Leagues for many years. Donning a Santa Suit on Christmas Eve, he would arrive at the Ronald McDonald House in Providence to visit the children there and would then visit many of his coworker's children in their homes. He was inducted into the Fox Point Boy's Club Hall of Fame and played in the Harmonica Band. He was a member of the Portuguese Sporting Club, the Portuguese American Social Club and a founding member of the First Thirty, Inc. He loved all sports, but enjoyed watching his favorite football team, The New England Patriots. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves his brother Keith and his wife Karen of East Providence and his sister Lynn McElroy of Providence. He also leaves a stepson, Jason Gallant of Indian Land, SC. Services were held on Sunday April 26, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home and Crematory in Lancaster, SC. A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 92 Hope St., Providence, RI on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the Fox Point Boy's and Girl's Club, 550 Wickenden Street, Providence, RI 02903.
