Roney Malafronte Obituary

MALAFRONTE, RONEY A., 56 of Warwick, passed away Friday December 15, 2006 surrounded by his wife, family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Linda (Antonelli) Malafronte.

He was the son of the late Oney and Dorothy (Knight) Malafronte. Father of Robin Pelleccione and her husband Greig of North Kingstown; Stepfather of Alan Ferrara and Eric Burns of Warwick; Grandfather of Anthony, Enzo and Alexia; Brother of Joyce Hunter of Warwick and her husband, Donald; Uncle of Michael, Steven and Debra; and long-term business partner of Nicholas Cambio of East Greenwich and Vincent Cambio of Johnston.

Roney was a lifelong resident of Warwick who graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. Before graduating, he worked for the New Farm Supper Club. In the late 1960's, Roney joined the Cambio brothers who were in the landscaping business. Together the three formed Universal Properties Group, Inc. Throughout the 1970's and 1980's, Universal began developing single family residential subdivisions, expanded into the site construction and aggregate processing fields, and created Universal Truck & Leasing, Inc. The residential operation has included over the years, the planning and development of over 1,800 single-family house lots and the construction of over 500 homes. Since the 1980's, Universal has been actively engaged in the development, construction and management of commercial real estate in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Through Roney's efforts and in conjunction with his partners, Universal has produced Bald Hill Commons, Warwick Centre, as well as the Centre of New England for retail, hotel, residential and light industrial use. Both of the Cambios' intend to fulfill Roney's dreams and all of his efforts and hard work by completing the Centre of New England.

Roney enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His most cherished days were spent on Narragansett Bay boating with the boys. Roney was an outgoing, warmhearted man who truly loved celebrating life with all those around him. Roney was an avid supporter of the imPossible Dream.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the imPossible Dream, 575 Centerville Road #4, Warwick, Rhode Island 02886. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Rd., Warwick. Entombment will be in Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Monday 4-9 p.m.

Dear Linda, Robin, Vinny, Nick, Michael, Steven, Debbie and Joyce:

My heart is full with such sadness. Roney was a great person with a heart of gold and a passion for his work. That passion was instilled in me as well during my 18 years of service. Growing with the 'boys', seeing the projects develop, working and learning from a man with such great intelligence and a true passion for what he did--he was always upbeat, saw the good in every situation and cared about his people. He always said, "..appreciate it, thank you..." Words cannot express my deepest sorrow. I am still numb. I miss him and hope you know how much he meant to me. There is no time to healing; but we have happy, loving, funny memories to cherish. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you...may his legacy live on through all of you. He would appreciate that.

To Linda & Family,

I only had the pleasure to meet Linda with my husband a few years ago in Little Chopsticks with Roney.
My husband Jeff and daughter Rachel knew Roney for many many years. We also have had the pleasure of knowing his father Oney, & Nephew Steve along with friend Vinny Cambio and his family.

Roney & Vinny built our home in Hillside farms in 1983. Our family became friends with Roney and we all thought the world of him. He was a kind good hearted person. We also have had the pleasure of knowing his dad and nephew. We wish you the sincerest sympathies. He was a wonderful person and will be missed greatly. We live in Florida now, but have kept in touch to see how he was. He will be remembered by myself and my family.

I've always known Ronnie to be on the job and worked with him by his side in the trenches of the home depot project and pace now know as sams club. and his first words to me were, " hey kid what do you think, there is 140' high ledge cut here. think we can make it look like something"? I said Mr. Malafronte, if you say move it than thats what we'll do. And Ronnie proceeded commanding the job and me working for D'ambra hit it hard and got it done. With an all team effort and everyone from U.T.E. and D'ambra const. accomplished what no one thought could be develeoped but Ronnies dreams came through in leadership and perseverance and all of the great leaders in the U.T.E. organization, my hat goes off to you and the legacy Ronnie has left behind. Please accept our deepest sympathy on your great loss from the Mazzenga family. and let it be known that it was an honor and a privilage to work for Ronnie and the whole U.T.E. family. We will miss him and he will allways be in our prayers.

It will be difficult to "dream" without him. He will always have a special place in my heart and at the imPOSSIBLE DREAM. There was no finer friend than Roney. I will remember his lessons of courage and bravery and keep them with me the rest of my life. Having Roney as an example will help me lead the imPOSSIBLE DREAM to accomplish even greater things. He truly was a "dream maker".

I have worked for Roney over the years, as a Painting contractor he was my friend, "and go to contact person". If you asked a question for he would tell it the way it is, like it or not,but he would not answer the question without knowing the right one.He has fought very hard in bussiness and it was only a warm up to the challange that was waited him. He fought very very hard,he will be missed, and I will keep watching to see his dream be for filled. Respectfully, Aztec Painting Co,Inc.
