Spyridon Papaioannou Obituary

PAPAIOANNOU, SPYRIDON D., 91, of Frank Street, Providence, died Wednesday at home. He was the husband of Evangelia (Melonas) Papaioannou. They were married for 57 years.

Born in Kastraki, Kallabakus, Greece, he was a son of Demetrios and Ezmaro Papaioannou.

Mr. Papaioannou was a barber in Greece for 16 years. When he came to the United States he became a restaurant worker at the former Shepard's Department Store Tea Room for over 20 years, until its closing. Mr. Papaioannou was also employed at Spiedel for 5 years, before his retirement. He was an avid Boston Celtics Fan and enjoyed reading the Greek newspaper daily.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Demetrios 'Jimmy' Papaioannou, Flat Rock, NC and Constantine 'Gus' Papaioannou, Warwick, RI. He was the grandfather of Evangelia, Alexander, Zachary, Anastacia, Spyridon, Meghann, and Nicholas Papaioannou.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, on Monday at 9:00 A.M. followed by services in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS Sunday 4-8 P.M.
