Susan Hannan Obituary

HANNAN, SUSAN JANE, SISTER SUSAN of the Blessed Sacrament, died on Thursday, March 10 in the early afternoon. Although she would be 92 in April, her death was unexpected. Sister Susan enjoyed supper with the community and shortly after began the final stage of her journey toward God. We rejoice with her that she is reunited with her parents, Susan Elizabeth English Hannan and Emmett David Hannan and her dear friend Sister Margaret and the many loved ones, family and friends, who have gone before her. We rejoice that after a long life she has passed through the veil and is united at last with her Beloved Lord. She was born in Paducah, Kentucky on April 18, 1924. Before entering religious life she studied and practiced nursing, a training she used for many years in the monastery as well. She entered the Carmelite Monastery in Newport, Rhode Island on June 4, 1953 and was professed December 9, 1954. The Carmelite Community moved to Barrington a few years later and it is there that Susan spent the rest of her life. She kept her southern roots and was known for her love of family, community and friends and for her love and attention to flowers, plants and growing things of all kinds. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Susan on Thursday, March 17th at 11:00 am in the Carmelite Monastery Chapel, Watson Avenue, Barrington. Her calling hours will be in the Chapel on Wednesday form 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Relatives and friends are invited. www.manningheffern.com.

Condolences to the community on the passing of Sister Susan. She was one of the few community members I never met personally, but I was always struck by her devotion as I'd often see her cross the altar during my many visits to the chapel over the years. So sorry for your loss.
