I can still vividly remember getting that call! It changed all of our lives...to think that you KB and I were all the same age but your life was cut short angers me! I then have to remind myself that you are in a better place and live each day as if it was my last.
We love and miss you so much cousin

Zakiyyah, I was just looking at some of the pics I took of you while you were here in Fort Wayne. I look at those and at your graduation photo and see what a lovely lady you turned into. But that's no surprise is it? I really miss you. Give Grandma Bernice a kiss for me and save a place for me. See you when I get there.

Zakiyyah not a day goes by that I want to kick myself for not forcing you to stay in ol slow Fort Wayne, but I know how badly you wanted to be in Jersey with your mother and all your friends. I know that staying in Fort Wayne would not have prevented this from happening because I am a firm believer that when God is ready for us there is no way or place to hide. When He calls us we must answer. I will never forget your beautiful smile, your loving personality even though you tried to "play hard" you were a breath of freshness to our home. I enjoyed having you live with me even in the hardest of times. I am so proud of you finishing school and for your desire to want to go to college. My heart was lifted when the principal said that you "mentioned" going to church, I'm glad that you remembered us at Shiloh. It has been hard I admit sometimes I just want to scream but it won't come out just yet. This tragedy is hitting home and my feelings are touched because you are loved by all of us here in Fort Wayne. Our lives were not the same after you left Fort Wayne, now they will be forever changed until we meet again on the other side We know being a child is hard we were once children ourselves, but being a responsible parent is even harder especially when we as children want to rebel against everything a parent imposes on us. It is good to know that God placed you in the loving family that He did Niece you will always be a special memory (that is as long as I can remember---JOHNSON family joke). Breshia & Jewells will be writing to you soon.

And those memories I will cherish forever. You left such an impact on the WORLD!!! Cuz, you may be gone, but you are definately not FORGOTTEN!! Zakiyyah
When I heard the news that you were gone my heart had broke in two.
I didn't know you very well but this should not have happened to you.

Your friends and family are saddened by your loss.
And would give anything to have you back no matter what the cost.

They say God always takes his angels up first.
He wanted you in His kingdom before things got worst.

You were certainly an angel and sent from heaven up above.
And everyone will miss you and we send all of our love.

So take your place in heaven where you definitely belong.
And rest your precious heart because you did nothing wrong.

I just wanted to tell you how I was feelin.
But most important Zakiyyah you are one in a million.
Love Always,
Shalene

To my beautiful neice Zakiyyah,
Words nor actions can take away the pain that your family feels over your untimely and senseless death. Only God knows the reason why and we take consolation in believeing that He makes no mistakes.
My prayers to your father and grandmother, my nephew Zaye and my sister Bettie, and to your mom and other persons that loved and knew you also. Your friends at Shiloh Baptist church in Fort Wayne Indiana sends their condolences to the family as well.

Zakiyyah- you were a beautiful young lady on the inside and the outside. You carried yourself in evey aspect of the phase "Young African Princess". Your home now, and your smile and sassyness will be missed on First St. Monique -cry for now but rejoyce later, for your baby-Zak was your "Angel and will be your Angel Forever" This was truely senseless- "But God Makes No Mistakes"

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
