Benjamin Curtis Obituary

DALLAS (AP) — Benjamin Curtis, guitarist and co-founder of the popular indie-rock band School of Seven Bells, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 35.

Brady Brock with New York-based GoldVE Entertainment, which co-manages the band, says Curtis died Sunday evening of lymphoblastic lymphoma at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Curtis was first diagnosed just under a year ago.

An Oklahoma native, Curtis lived in Dallas where he played in bands including Tripping Daisy and Secret Machines. Brock says Secret Machines relocated to New York before Curtis went on to form School of Seven Bells with Alejandra de la Deheza.

Brocks said Tuesday that Curtis gathered acclaim not just as a guitarist but also an innovative composer and musician.

Funeral services had not been arranged as of Tuesday.

Our deep, heartfelt condolences to the Curtis family during your time of grief. Although occasions such as the loss of a loved one can bring sadness, comfort can be ours if we draw close to God with the assurance that he will draw close to us and ease our pain. May your inner peace be restored as you read John 11:11-44. Until that time, we remember Benjamin Curtis for the great artist he was and with much admiration for him and the way he entertained us.
