WILKES-BARRE — Carl M. Brennan had his beloved wife and family at his side when he suddenly passed away at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.
Born April 14, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late James A. and Mary S. (McGuiness) Brennan.
A 1961 graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Carl worked for Bethlehem Steel and a few construction companies before becoming a bus driver for LCTA for 17 years. Before retiring, he went on to be a big part of the community of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, where he was the sexton and custodian at the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception for 20 years.
In 1965, Carl married the love of his life, Jean Marie, daughter of the late Thomas A. and Adele (Jacob) Beckus of Wilkes-Barre. Together they recently celebrated 50 years of married life.
Carl's true strength in life was his intense love for his entire family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and after retiring, enjoyed doing odds and ends around the house and cooking for his family.
Brothers, James, Maurice, Richard, William, Donald and Joseph Brennan; and a sister, Mary Lou Handel, preceded him in death.
Carl will be greatly missed by his wife, Jean Marie; children, Marty Brennan, of Wilkes-Barre, Mary and her husband, Bob Saba, of Dallas, Eileen Ormando, of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Joseph and his wife, Jane Brennan, of Dallas, and Adele and her husband, Richard Carey, of Wilkes-Barre; 18 grandchildren; sisters, Eileen and her husband, Ronnie Bykowski, of Wilkes-Barre, Kathy "Babe" and her husband, Larry Williams, of Bethlehem, and Alice and her husband, Joseph Palischak, of Larksville; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Carl's Life will begin with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLaughlin's, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, and will continue there with gathering at 8:30 a.m. Saturday followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, 136 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18701.

I am so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. My heart breaks for his whole family but mostly Jean. My mom worked, for years ,with Jean at Franklin First and even after the bank closed we would see them through out the years out and about (always together). Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of Uncle Carl, the last of the Brennan boys. May god give you Jean Marie and your beautiful family the strength to get through this very sad time in your life. With the passing of Uncle Carl I become the oldest living male Brennan in our extensive family. I hope that I can carry the family flag with the dignity that Carl Brennan did during his exemplary life.
I am so happy that I recently had the opportunity to visit Him and Jean Marie.
With our love and heartfelt sympathy.

Carl and his wife, Jean, would always visit my workplace. They started off as strangers who slowly became what I consider a huge part of my life. Carl was always so kind and happy, and his passing hit me like a train. When I first found out about it, I stayed up crying for HOURS. To think that I first met Carl and Jean about a year ago, and to see how big of an impact they both had on my life is truly amazing. I will miss seeing your smiling face every day. Thank you for always making my day better.

Never did I know a couple that had and displayed more respect for one another than Carl and Jean. Carl was by far one of the kindest men I will ever know. His desire to be a great man, husband and father was obvious to me at a very young age of seven. God's love radiated through him. He was a role model to myself, as well as my sisters and brothers. He touched our lives and raised our spirits without realizing it. How blessed I was too know him and his family.
