CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Henry Labenski, 97, formerly of Nanticoke and residing in Cherry Hill for the past four years, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, his "Honey Bunny" of 72 loving years of marriage.
Also preceding Henry were his father, Edward; mother, Anna; sister, Eva; and brother, Edward.
Henry served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon returning from the service, he was employed by Biscontini Mining Co. for many years and then by Magregors in Berwick, from which he retired.
He also was a member of the American Legion for more than 60 years. Henry was an exceptional son, a loving husband and an amazing father and grandfather.
Surviving are his two "Sweethearts," daughters, Evelyn, Mountain Top, and Judy, Cherry Hill. He is also survived by grandsons, Jason Brahin and his wife, Megan, Eric Brahin and his wife, Jacqueline, and Matt Czapla, whom Henry and Wanda helped raise. His great-grandchildren are Ethan, Allegra and Violet. His nephew is Robert Yastremski and his wife, Maureen. A niece through marriage is Patricia Black. Not to be forgotten are his sons-in-law, Conrad Brahin, whom he resided with, and Joe Zakowski, his "Football/Baseball Buddy," who enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies with Henry.
So goodbye to one great guy. Everyone will miss you, but we know you're back together with your Honey Bunny.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Our Light, 402 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill. The funeral Mass will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be in Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
