HUNLOCK CREEK — Wilbur Shields, 89, a resident of Hunlock Creek, passed away at his home, March 23, 2015.
He was born April 7, 1925, in Wyoming, a son of the late William and Sophia McDonald Shields.
He was a member of the Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church.
He was employed by General Motors as a lineman.
Wilbur served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Elmina Rittenhouse; sons, Raymond and William Shields; sisters, Hannah Newberry, Flora, Grace McMullery and Pearl; brothers, Lester, Jessie and Eldon.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ernestine Hardes; daughters, Darleen Pinkowski, Hanover Township, Marcia Luskey, Shickshinny, Mary Wildoner, Hunlock Creek; son, Charles Shields, Swoyersville; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with Pastor George Price officiating. Calling hours will be 9 a.m. to service Thursday at the funeral home. Shickshinny American Legion Post 495 will honor Wilbur with a veterans service. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

So sad to lose him. He was always happy-go-lucky. Last time I talked with Uncle, he was mowing his lawn. Since I live in Florida, I never saw him much..just on occasion when I visited my mom, Hannah Shields Newberry. She was the baby of their family and he was next older to her. God bless the family...he was the last of the Shields legacy.
