Alice Sleighter Obituary
Chambersburg - Alice Louise (Culbertson) Sleighter, 86, of Chambersburg passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 9, 1932 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clark and Elva (Kelso) Culbertson. Alice was a member of the Open Door Church, where she later helped her husband,Charlie, at the church and Cumberland Valley Christian School doing cleaning and maintenance. She also drove a school van for the Cumberland Valley Christian School for 10 Years. A 1952 graduate of Chambersburg High School, She went directly to work at Stanley as a seamstress until 1972; followed by several years at Fulton Knit Company. She enjoyed flowers, especially orange roses, working in her vegetable garden, cooking for her family over the holidays, singing and walking with friends. Alice loved time spent with her husband and poodle Abby, reading the entire Bible through every year and doing Bible Study every morning. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Eugene Sleighter Sr., whom she married on May 22, 1954; her daughters, Saundra Sleighter Miley of Chambersburg, Tina Sleighter Boock and husband Craig of Chambersburg and her sons, Charles Sleighter Jr. of Huntingdon, PA., James Sleighter Sr. Of Inverness, Fl. and Walter (Andy) Sleighter and wife Shelly of Puyallup, Wa.; 13 grandchildren, Rachel Sheaffer, Amanda Henry, Tyler Houser, wife (Janelle), Bradley Houser, Lindsey Hudson, husband (Sean), Danielle Boock, Alyssa Boock, Shawn Reasner, Chad Miller, James Sleighter Jr., Anna Sleighter, Michael Sleighter, Megan Tovar, husband (Jason); 10 great grandchildren, David Robinson, Erika Sheaffer, Kierra, Kobe, Kyler Rego, Kaylah Moats, Haydon and Chloe Houser, Brody Houser, and Ava Hudson. One sibling Mirinda Dunlap. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her son William Clark Sleighter, her twin sister Evelyn Reese, and brother Kenneth Culbertson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Sellers Funeral Home. There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
