Donald R. Keefer, 82, died November 13, 2017 at Quincy Village, Waynesboro.
Born March 21, 1935 at Ft. Loudon, he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Brindle Keefer.
Don was a 1955 graduate of James Buchanan High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959 and was stationed in Germany.
He was a former employee of the Mercersburg Tannery, American Can and James River Companies, and was last employed by Georgia-Pacific, retiring in 2000. Along with his wife, Sue, they served as custodians at First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg for 42 years. Don enjoyed watching sports and followed the St. Louis Cardinals and Penn State football.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving family include his wife, Susan Pine Keefer whom he married June 29, 1957. A daughter, Kathy R. Smetzer and companion, Joe Stewart of Mercersburg; a son, James A. Keefer and companion, Virginia Myers of Greencastle. Three grandchildren, Kyle DeShong, Kristi Smetzer, and Dakota Keefer. Three sisters, Marlene (Donald) Beeler of Chambersburg, Audrey Pfeiffer of Hagerstown, and Roberta Keefer of Ft. Loudon. Don was preceded in death by siblings, James Keefer, T. Dean Keifer (sic), Warren Keefer, and Virginia Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. November 17, 2017 at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Reverend Michael L. Baughman officiating. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
