Howard Beaver Obituary

Beaver, Sr. Mr. Howard L. Beaver, Sr., 87, of 281 Martina Drive, Chambersburg, and formerly of 10851 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, died Friday evening, April 6, 2012 in Quincy Village. He had been in failing health for the past three months. Born February 2, 1925 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late John K. and Mae Ella (Ovelman) Beaver. He spent his early life in the Greencastle area. Mr. Beaver served with the United States Army 11th Airborne 408th Quarter Master Company during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He and his wife, the late Betty Jane (Beard) Beaver, married on May 8, 1948 in Pond Bank Mennonite Church. Mrs. Beaver died on February 21, 2011. Mr. Beaver worked for Chambersburg Dairy Products for 7 years; Acme Markets for 22 years; and he was most recently employed at Quincy United Methodist Home for 23 years, retiring in 1999. He attended Mt. Olivet United Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg and was a member of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, Greencastle. Mr. Beaver was an avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan and enjoyed old western movies and novels. He is survived by his son Howard L. Beaver, Jr., Chambersburg; two grandsons: Troy D. Beaver, Chambersburg, Shaun A. Beaver, Greencastle; two great grandsons: Cody Beaver, Tye Beaver; two brothers, Arthur K. Beaver and Kenneth E. Beaver, both of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Anna Beaver, Catherine Beaver, Eleana Beaver, Helen Eichelberger; and six brothers, Charles Beaver, Robert Beaver, Clarence Beaver, John Beaver, Paul Beaver, and Roy Beaver. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, with Rev. Ron Strader officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, and one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA, 17202.
