James Walls Obituary

James Everett Walls, Jr.

On July 11th, 2013, 19 days after celebrating his 100th birthday, Everett went to be with his Lord and Savior. A man of many interests, he was active in Lulu and Nur temple as a Shriner, as well as being a member of Union Lodge #5. A staunch conservative Republican, he was involved in many campaigns and elections in Delaware and Maryland. Even at 17, young Everett had started a road building business and that was a going concern until he left for World War II. Honorably serving his country in World War II, he was stationed in the Philippine Islands and Japan, where he was placed on the front lines for 180 consecutive days. Upon returning home, he began his varied business career. Everett was in the construction and real estate business, a founder of Delaware Industries, Gander Hill Farms, and Bay View Realty Co.

The son of James Everett Walls, Sr. and Julia Alice Short Walls, Everett was born in Middletown DE. A graduate of Middletown High School and Wesley College, he lettered in three sports. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Wesley College.

Early on, Everett loved racing power boats and held several records that were sanctioned by the American Powerboat Association. His numerous interests included Big Band music swing music, especially Glenn Miller, his beloved Baltimore Colts football teams, the Philadelphia Flyers, boating excursions on the "AL-KAY", wintering in Miami, the Bath Club --- these were among Everett's favorite pursuits.

Everett is survived by his son, James Everett Walls, III and his adored daughter-in-law, Judy, his daughter, Julia Walls Henderson, of Miami, FL. "Pop-pop's" grandsons, whom were his life's joy, James Everett Walls, IV (Melissa) of Bear, DE, a fourth generation member of the family business, and Robert Jourdan Walls (Kelly) of Philadelphia, PA, who oft reminded Pop-Pop of himself, great- granddaughters Danielle Julia Walls and Cayden Jourdan Walls were a special source of pride.

He was predeceased in death by his precious wife of 51 years, Alma Jourdan Walls and his son-in-law, T. M. (Hank) Henderson.

The Walls family wants to acknowledge Everett's caretaker of several years, Tom Wheatcraft, and a special family friend, Ruth Money.

To the staff at Broadmeadow Rehabilitation Center, the Walls family extends sincere thanks for the excellent, extraordinary care and many kindnesses to Everett. This marvelous group helped ease Everett's passing and provided invaluable support and blessings to the entire Walls clan.

Funeral services were held privately.

Memorial contributions can be made to MARKINC Ministries, 2880 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, Delaware, 19701.

Julie, Jay, Judy, Rhett, & Robert,

I am so sorry for your loss, but am so happy to know that your father and grandfather is at peace and no longer in pain. God is good and has relieved him of his earthly burden and welcomed him into his heavenly Kingdom. Nick and I send you our deepest sympathies and lots of love to carry you through your grief. We pray that the memories of, and the love you have for your father and grandfather sustain you and provides you with joy. I'm sure Grandpa and Step-Great-Grandfather Walls (that's what I called him) are swapping stories right now, and I bet they are good ones.

With love,
Elizabeth & Nick Cheer
