Maureen Heckman Obituary

Maureen C. Heckman
January 10, 1946 - February 8, 2017
Chambersburg
Maureen Carol West Heckman went home to be with her Lord on February 8, 2017 after a valiant 18-year battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 71. Maureen was born January 10, 1946 in Chambersburg, to the late Boyd West and Elsie Mae West. She was married to her husband of 45 years, Galen "Gene" Heckman, until his passing in 2015. She lived her entire life in the Chambersburg and Shippensburg area, until her recent 2-year stay at the Masonic Village Nursing Home in Elizabethtown.
Maureen was known to her family and friends as "Quinkie," the nickname given by her grandfather Pap-Pap when she was a toddler because of her quirky way of saying tidily-winks, a game she often asked him to play. She grew up the third of four sisters near Pond Bank PA and graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1963. After a brief stint at the Stanley Company, she spent more than 30 years at Letterkenney Army Depot as a Civilian Personnel Assistant. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially at family holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed the beach, bowling, playing cards, watching sports and listening to music. She was a huge Elvis fan, and also loved to see the Alabama concert every year at the York Fair. And she adored her three grandchildren Kyle, Alison and Michael.
In addition to her parents, Maureen was preceded in death by her husband Gene; sisters, Barbara Joy Thompson and Trudy Mae West; cousin, Kay Marie Bumbaugh; and brothers-in-law, Bob Freel and Ronnie Peck. She is survived by her son, Todd and his wife, Tracy; and their three children, Kyle (19), Alison (17) and Michael (13) of Lititz; brother-in-law, Ron Thompson; nephew, Robin (Deb) Kauffman; great-niece, Nikki (Josh) Naugle, all of Fayetteville; sister, Bonnie Freel; niece, Robbie (Jay) Bertelson; nephew, Scott (Judy) Freel, all of Tucson, AZ; several great-great nieces and nephews; and three step-children, Terri Heckman, Kirt Heckman and Karl Heckman, of Red Lion.
Services will be private and under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. Donations in Maureen's memory can be made online to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at www.michaeljfox.org. Online condolences may be offered on her Book of Memories page at
