Melvin W. Strawcutter

1930 - 2024

Melvin W. Strawcutter, 94, of Mayport passed away on Wednesday morning, June 19, 2024, at his home.
Born on April 28, 1930, in Mahaffey, he was the son of the late Clyde and Frances (Bouch) Strawcutter.
Melvin was married on Oct. 30, 1954, to Mary C. (Hull) Strawcutter, and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2014.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Baughman Coal Co. He belonged to the Walter W. Craig Post No. 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion.
He is survived by three children, Marlene Shick of Ringgold, Mervin Strawcutter and wife Mary, and Mark Strawcutter and wife Nancy, both of Mayport; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild' a brother, Phillip Strawcutter and wife Janet of Mahaffey' and two sisters, Arle Stahlman of Punxsutawney and Vonnie Milliron of Mahaffey.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Melvin was preceded in death by four brothers, Max Strawcutter, Arnold Strawcutter, Kenneth Strawcutter and Gerald Strawcutter, and five sisters, Dorothy Hilliard Armour, Emily Lingenfelter, Clarabelle Harkleroad, Betty Jean Bracken and Ruth Strawcutter.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Eckman officiating.
Immediately following the funeral service, the Walter W. Craig Post No. 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion will honor their fallen comrade.
Interment will be in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Ringgold.
