Robert "Bob" J. Elick, 75, of Cherry Tree, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Jan. 12, 2025, at 4 p.m.
The son of John Elick, Jr. and Marie Arminda (Fleming) Elick, he was born on Dec. 16, 1949, in Spangler.
He graduated from West Anchorage High School in Alaska in 1968 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970. He became a member of the 82nd Airborne and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Bob was a hardworking coal miner from 1972 to 1992 for Greenwich Collieries. In 1992, he and his son started a logging business known as Elick Logging, where he retired from in 2015.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Uniontown and had a strong faith in the Lord. Bob's love for his family was like none other and anyone who knew him could see that.
Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping with his family and especially his uncle Ray.
He loved to give his legendary hugs and especially loved newborn babies and kids, no matter whose children they were.
Bob's favorite movies were of John Wayne and he liked to emulate him on his own horses. He was a fun-loving man and his humor was contagious. He always knew how to make people laugh.
Bob will be greatly missed and survived by his loving wife Judith Ann (Buterbaugh) Elick, whom he married on March 27, 1971, and shared over 53 years of marriage together; his son, John W. Elick and wife Jennifer (Litavish) of Cherry Tree, and his daughter, Sherry Marie Jones and husband Jamie of St. Lawrence; his four grandchildren, Paige Jones; Sydnee Elick; John Francis Elick and Hunter Jones; his great-granddaughter, Ellia Grace Krug; his aunt Darlene Keith; uncle Ray "Unc" Fleming; his aunt Geraldine Federinko; and his aunt Martha Keifer; his loving brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd., in Hillsdale. Viewing will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, when an 11 a.m. funeral service with military honors will be held at the funeral home with his nephew, Todd O'Shell, as the speaker.
Interment will be at East Ridge Cemetery in Westover.
