BETTY STEFFEN Obituary

BETTY STEFFEN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Steffen, who departed this life peacefully on September 24th at the age of 77. She was surrounded by her husband and daughters in her final moments. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family. Born at home in Illinois, Betty lived a life full of strength, love, and dedication. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose spirit touched everyone she met. Betty was known for her warm heart, her devotion to her family, and her acts of kindness that made a lasting difference in the lives of others. Throughout her life, Betty found joy in her family and serving the community. She celebrated 56 years of marriage to her husband, Don. Their commitment to each other is one of her greatest legacies, highlighting the importance of love and honoring one another. Together they raised three daughters who all graduated from college and began families of their own; instilling the values they were taught. Betty was a steward in the community, actively participating in school fundraising events and committees. She volunteered at the local church and gave her time to special needs children at Easter Seals. Betty was a shining light to others, welcoming all with her beautiful smile and hug. Before Betty was married, she worked as a ticket agent at the O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. She met Don at work, and this was how their love story began. As they raised their three daughters, Betty focused on her family and volunteerism in Florida. As the girls grew older, she returned to the workforce and became the secretary for First Christian Church. She genuinely enjoyed supporting the pastor and congregation for several years. When it was time to leave the church, she found an opportunity with Columbia Hospital as a Patient Liaison. This was a perfect fit for Betty as she was able to support patients in their time of need. Her smile and genuine, caring personality were a natural fit for this role. Upon retirement, Betty and Don relocated to Leesburg, FL where they enjoyed their next chapter of life. Living in the Royal Highlands community gave Betty a new purpose. She thrived on organizing community events, loved attending functions and became a Precinct 5 Director, serving on many boards. She made new friends and concentrated on making Royal Highlands the best it could be for all residents. She truly had a passion for bringing the fun and she always brought that energy into every event she led. Betty is survived by her husband, Don Steffen. Her sister, Joyce Cavanagh (husband: Darren). Her daughters, Colleen Abanto (husband: Jim), Donica Fortin (husband: Harold) and Sherry Coll (husband: Caleb). Grandchildren James, Christopher, Adia, Genevieve, Alexandra, and Caitlin. She was preceded in death by her siblings Carol and Kenny and her parents Joseph and Dorothy.
