DeETTA STRAKER Obituary

DeETTA "DEE" COOKIE" STRAKER DeEtta "Dee, Cookie" Straker, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Phoenix, Az on Jan. 2, 2025. She lived a life full of love and determination with the support and caretaking of her husband of 57 years, Dwight (Dick) Straker. Dee was born to the late Eugene and DeEtta Schmenk in Lima, Ohio in March 1947 and lived in Ottawa, Ohio with her sister Donna Ellerbrock and her late brother, Gerald Schmenk until marrying her husband Dick in 1967 and moving to Columbus, Ohio and then to Phoenix, Az to raise the large family she had always wanted. Dee is survived by nine children, twenty-three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Dee's legacy is the impact her life has left on her family and her enduring friendships. She loved without holding back, and taught her children to live fully and uniquely themselves with faith in Jesus. She was passionate in her support of breastfeeding mothers, families with adopted children, and caring for loved ones with disabilities. Memorial service for Dee is being held on Saturday, Jan 11, 2025 at 12pm with viewing starting 10am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home located at 1562 E. Baseline Rd.
