Allan Johnson Obituary

02/24/1938 - 02/13/2021 Allan passed away peacefully at home on the morning of February 13, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Josephine Johnson and granddaughter Brianna Johnson. Allan owned Tally Ho Marine Salvage and Decor close to 50 years. It was a unique business that he started when he realized that there were uses for fishing nets long after they were used to catch fish. With the help of his kids and their friends he packaged what he called "Luau Kits" made up of fish netting, seashells, and a Hawaiian lei. He also used the netting to build golf nets and batting cages. Through the years, his collection grew to include all things nautical including buoys, anchors, and boats. Allan decorated kids' birthday parties to Hollywood movie sets. It was his dream job every day was different and interesting, and as a bonus, he got to wear shorts and T-shirts to work every day! Allan was a founding member of the Cabrillo Beach Boosters, and was proud of his involvement with the club's many accomplishments, including carrying on the tradition of the John Olguin Fourth of July Fireworks Show, the restoration of the Angel's Gate Lighthouse, and the creation of the annual Allan Johnson Battle of the Beach, a friendly competition between Junior Lifeguards. Allan lived with and died from lung disease brought on by the toxins in the environment. He neither blamed nor complained, and lived till the very end with strength, courage, and an optimistic attitude. "I've had a great life!" he said, and indeed he did. Allan is survived by his wife Annie, children Cliff (Dianne), Mike (Sari), and Sue (Mike) Sestich, and grandchildren Meagan and John Sestich. He also leaves behind his sister Diane Bova, nieces Julie and Lisa Erickson, beloved cousins, and many wonderful friends. He will be greatly missed. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com.

Allan was one of the nicest men you'd ever want to meet. I met him in the mid 1980s when I moved across the street from his Tally Ho business. We became friends as well as neighbors, and later when he took over Mike's Marine on the other corner where I had worked for several years, I stayed on with Allan til he sold it. I send my deepest condolences to his wife Annie and all of their combined family. Allan will be greatly missed, but never forgotten...I'll always remember him sitting in his chair in front of the open gates to Tally Ho in the afternoons waving at all his friends as they drove by and honked or sometimes giving his beloved '67 GTO another wash and shine. RIP Allan.
