Barbara was born on April 25, 1936, in Moline, IL, to Frank and Lucile (Bender) Anspach. She graduated from Port Byron High School in 1955. On February 25, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart Donald Speer at the Methodist Church in Port Byron, IL, and together they raised six children.
Barbara loved to embroider kitchen towel sets for friends and family. One of her favorite past times was playing games where she earned the title "The Queen of Yahtzee". Barbara could also be found putting together puzzles or curled up in the recliner reading a good romance book. She took pride for being known as the friendly neighborhood baker, which brought smiles to everyone. She loved to travel, and had plenty of stories about the trips she took with her girls. Her heart was fulfilled at Christmas with the careful planning of meals and picking out just the right gag gift. Hosting Christmas meant the world to her.
Barbara is survived by her children: Peggy Lieving, East Moline, IL, Scott (Ruth) Speer, Port Byron, IL, Doug (Connie) Speer, Flower Mound, TX, Lisa Lewis, Arlington, TX, and Susie (Steve) LaGrant, Delhi IA; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years; son, Brad; brothers: Jackie Lee and Roger; and sons-in-law: Wayne Lieving and Tony Lewis.
