ANDOVER-Betty J. Helms, 75, of Andover passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at home.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, June 30 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made in care of Disabled American Veterans or Fisher House Foundation.
Betty was born on October 10, 1946 in Newton, IA, a daughter of Francis and Jessie (Lafoon) Bond. She married Gaylord Helms on February 19, 2000. Betty worked as an Administrative Professional for 25 years at John Deere.
Betty's many hobbies included; gardening, traveling (especially her winters in Hawaii with Gaylord), cross-stitch, and diamond art. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and she always had a way of uplifting and caring for others. She liked to cheer up those around her by getting them to laugh and smile. She conquered life daily with a positive attitude and relied on her faith often. Betty continued her fight until the very end.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gaylord; children, Steven (Jessica) Hall and Dawn (Nick) Hozian; step-children, Matthew (Kathy) Helms, Doug (Tricia Kane) Helms and Lori (Carl) DePooter; grandkids, Amber (Alan) Mead, Cassie Hall, Josh Hall, Kayla (Brandon) Gass, Gracie (Ricky Kann) Hozian, Mitchell Hozian, Ashley Walls, Riley Walls, Connor Sheley, Christine DePooter, Garrett DePooter and Dalton DePooter; great-granddaughter Scarlett Gass and one more on the way; and sister, Jennie Slead.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister in law, Bob (Myrna) Bond; and brother in law, Kenny Slead.

I worked with Betty for many years at D&C, she always had a smile, team player, always willing to help. She was a good friend. She will be missed.
