PORT BRYON-Carlyle Thomas Lanham, 85, of Port Byron, IL, died Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 3 – 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Carlyle was born July 9, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Bernard J. and Bertha L. (DeCleene) Lanham. He married Alberta McIntyre on January 31, 1959 in Rapids City, Illinois. Carlyle joined the US Marine Corps in 1955, and served for 23 years. After retiring in 1978, he worked at John Deere in Davenport for 18 years, retiring in 1998. He was a life member of the VFW Post #5083 in Geneseo.
Carl served honorably in the Marine Corps and received accolades from all who knew him. In-country Vietnam, the Philippines, and Bay of Pigs Crisis (Cuba) are just some tours of duty.
Carl enjoyed card games, cribbage, chess, checkers of which he made a lot of money off of us! Fishing in Crane Lake, MN for Northern Pike brought both he and Bert great joy and big fish! He was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and family with a Keystone Lite as sufficient payment.
Carl is survived by both his daughter, Kathryn Lanham, and grand-dog Peaches of Port Byron, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny and wife Alberta.
My heartfelt thanks to the VA Home Based Program, Cedarhurst Assisted Living, Compassus Hospice, Clarissa Cook Hospice House. These folks went above and beyond and will always be held in highest regard. Online condolences may be made at www.gibsonbodefh.com.
